Need Strobe for canon A540

Hello all you fine people. I recently bought a canon A540 and an underwater housing. Point and shoot capabilities are like an advanced course for me so the simpler the better.
I find this camera takes good pictures -- good in the way of they are almost always in good focus. Occasionally, I get very lucky and find good subjects too but that is another topic for another time.
My problem/question is that I definitely need additional lighting. Can anyone tell me where I would shop for a strobe? What strobe would you recommend for the A540 and so I will know how shocked I will be, approximately how much can I expect to spend? Am I right in guessing the strobe will cost much more than the camera and housing did together?
