O.K. all my second article ever is ready for viewing by going to the Scuba Source front page at http://www.scubasource.com and clicking on the article about my First Dive Ever with underwater communications. The dive was at an active oil rig, 8.5 miles off of the Southern California coast. The article gives you a good idea of what a first timer thinks of using underwater communication gear and a full face mask.

Great article. Sounds like the next step in diving for the new millinium is here! I hope someday this can be used by all divers. Seems like a big leap in safety to be able to communicate, with each other, and especially with topside.
Any ideas on cost?

I am a brand new diver. You can't get any more newer. I love reading/listening to dive tales (espically with pics.) that it makes me wish the snow would melt and give me a chance to hit the water again.

Now about the equipment you were using, would it be wise for a new diver to think about using that equipment, or would it be a good idea to get more experience?

Diving Dragon, glad to have you aboard. Hopefully before long you will have some adventurous diving stories to share with us.

Regarding underwater communications, the equipment has a short learning curve that all divers have to overcome (i.e how to listen through bubble noise, pronouncing words underwater, etc.). It is my opinion that it is up to the diver when he/she is ready for extra dive equipment. If you are at the stage where you are comfortable with your standard dive gear, you're ready!

Being with someone who really knows an area and being able to share the dive while it is happening adds a nice dimension to diving not to mention the safety factor. You might want to checkout the CD Mario is talking about!

We hope to hear some dive stories or maybe meet some day in the future.

I must admit that I am now nearly sold on the full face mask!

Silence underwater is wonderful, but the advantages to communications became apparent to me while reading your article. I can also see the positive side for instructors, who can correct and advise their protégés immediately instead of having to wait for debriefing on the surface.

Nice job, Mario, I hope you keep the articles coming...

Thanks for the vote of confidence all, I'll try to improve with every article. As for the communication gear, what sold me is actually diving the gear. The video we talked about earlier is absolutely outstanding, the article really doesn't do the product justice... I will be taking my communication gear everywhere I go, including on the trips I will be escorting from the boards. Those should be up on the Scubasource front page soon! This way anyone choosing to try the equipment can do so whenever they wish.

My son and I just completed the pool/class part of our certification, and our instructor had an AGA full face mask that he let us try in the pool. What an incredible experience! Natural breathing, no fogging, and fantastic visibility. If the costs ever got down to the reasonable level, I could see many people switching to this method.

I didn't try the communications gear, but that was icing on the cake!!
