He was told by the US federal agents that it was illegal to ship and ordered him not to ship and followed up on the matter to make sure that he didn't and wouldn't ship, yet he still went through with the deal anyways?? This is beyond stupidity and common sense. And for what?? A mere 100 or 200 K $$$ to face decades of prison time???

As we say, "Allah may forgive some sins but stupidity is eternal."

Yep, she put up $25k hard money - easy terms.

    "BondSetat:STIP$250K10% C/S" - see the Minutes PDF.
    Where's he going to? Libya?

Conditions? Among others; seek full-time employment, travel restricted to the southern district fo the court, standard no firearms. Not bad. The defendant have every incentive to remain in compliance.

The $25k likely pales compared to the cost of a full-blown criminal defense. Bruce Udolf is listed as Peter's defense attorney. He most likely got all of his dollars up-front - see doc14.

Reading a few more docs will flesh out the government's initial case - see attachments to this post.

Doc12 - attached - outlines the initial schedule of events.

Doc15 - GOVERNMENT'S RESPONSE TO THE STANDING DISCOVERY ORDER

    • This doc gives an overview of the government's evidence against the defendants. Of interest are a few excerpts;
      • Audio recordings of a confidential source’s meeting with defendant Peter Sotis on or about December 12, 2016, and with defendant Emilie Voissem on or about December 16, 2016
      • The emails of the defendants
      • The NCIC record of the defendants are attached
      • The government's Brady disclosures
      • The government has possession of the four rebreathers that are at issue in this Case
      • The attachments to this response are Bates numbered GOV 00001-GOV 003597
Unfortunately for Peter, he has a prior felony conviction for armed robbery - see doc15/A4. This doesn't help.

The government's admonition not to export the RBs - see doc15/#5 - is interesting in light of the defendant's alleged conduct.

Of interest - EMILE VOISSEM, no bond, no arrest? Speculation?

According to the article Sotis et al shipped the rebreathers to the client's agent (Ramas, LLC) in Virginia. The agent then arranged shipment which was intercepted in Europe. Sotis is quoted as saying to the newspaper “If someone wants to pick something up from us and ship it overseas, it’s none of our business,” Sotis said. “How do I stop a shipment from a company I didn't hire?" Seems like he doesn't have a good understanding of conspiracy, aiding and abetting, etc. Be interesting if this falls under RICO statues.

She's probably making a deal, I would assume.
