Yep. For the first several hundred years, Marylanders got around by boats. And paid taxes in tobacco. Aw, the good old days . . .

The only ferry service of which I'm familiar is the ferry from Reedville, Va. (south of the Potomac, on the Great Wicomico River), to Solomon's Island, Va. in the middle of the Bay to Crisfield, Md. on the Eastern Shore. I expect their is also ferry service to Smith Island, Maryland.

Except for the Bay, the rivers are bridgeable and I believe federal highway funding encourages that approach.

OK, I was wondering why there isn't more bridges and ferries. Some pleaces I loticed are about 5 miles apart but separated by a body of water. To get to one point to another they end up making over an hour journey.
