Our august trip got cancel since the dingdong with the house didn't take care of business. Our next trip won't be until next spring when we hope to stay for a few months. Soooooo........

not yet :(

I'd avoid Maui Dive Shop. The dive boats are cattle boats and they cater to the tourists more than the diving visitors.

I've also heard of major safety issues with them...

As for AAA, please see this thread:

It appears there might be two sides to every story. :)

Oh, and I have had personal experience with Maui Diving Scuba Center in Lahaina; Maui Dreams Dive Co. in Kihei; and Ed Robinson's Diving Adventures. I have nothing bad to say about any of these companies -- and I haven't heard anything bad either.

I'd highly recommend Maui Dreams as they are much more interested in being like an LDS than a tourist trap.

As for ShakaDivers... it sounds like they're a good group, very laid back. I have some concerns based on pictures that Doug has posted (here and on his site) regarding interactions with marine life that most believe should be avoided, especially in places like Maui where thousands of people want to see these creatures in their natural habitat, not just their plates.

(I speak of "bug hunts" aka lobster diving and "playing" with a seal, a protected marine mammal)

Hope that helps,
