Hi All:
Sorry for the late notice but the Ocean Explorer still has a few open seats for dive trips to the Ocean Venture (Saturday) and Chenango (Sunday) this weekend, May 20th and 21st. Cost is $200 for either day. Trips leave at 6:00 AM, 12 to 14 hours at sea. Saturday night gas fills available. Please call Dive Quarters in Virginia Beach at 757-422-3483 to book. Advanced Nitrox or Trimix certification and decompression experience is required.
The Ocean Venture was a brand new Liberty Ship sunk by the U-108 in February of 1942. Roughly 50 miles E/NE of Rudee Inlet, max depth is 170 FT in washouts, large structure with multiple boilers and high bottom relief, usually good to great visibility. Brass ports, valves and fittings are still recoverable.
The Chenango was a 1918 merchant ship sunk by the U-84 in April of 1942. Roughly 60 miles SE of Rudee Inlet, max depth is 140 FT, large and elongated structure, multiple sections, good bottom relief, usually good to great visibility. This is a lobster wreck.
The Ocean Explorer is a USCG inspected new dive boat to Virginia Beach, operated out of Rudee Inlet by Captain Mark Fowler. She's 65 FT long with live aboard accommodations and has two high volume compressors with nitrox and trimix on-board fill capability. Other features include passenger bunks, completely enclosed and air conditioned cabin, massive dive deck with overhead sun deck, fins on and fins off boarding ladders and a dive platform big enough to run laps on.
