Are the Oceanic inflators on the Flex BCD serviceable or are they a throw away item? LDS recommended putting on a new one annually... That just didn't sound like the correct answer.

Not sure what oceanic uses for inflator, my generi inflator is from 2009 when I started diving. I replaced print and clean it she it feels a little sticky. There are total 4-5 orings, cost less than $1. Change it out annually sounds ridiculous to me

Find a new LDS. That inflator should last for many years with reasonable user care without service. Then it really depends on how much you have to pay for service versus buying a replacement. If you DIY, it might cost a couple dollars for service.

Am with others, sounds a little scamy. Providing you flush fresh water through the inflator after diving and are not dragging it through the sand it should last, as awap says, "many years". The inflator unit on one of my wings is at least 5 years old.

I'm more interested in whether the inflator on the Oceanic Flex is serviceable. I have inflators on BCDs that are 14 years old that never failed. I have some I found the service manual for... And serviced them with a few new o-rings. I found it odd that I couldn't service the inflator, and then cringed at the LDS's comment.

I am changing LDS's, but not because of service issues... More on personality issues...

When I went through the Oceanic Tech class they said that the inflator should be replaced and not serviced. The rep teaching the class said the inflator cost was equivilant to a service kit cost so the price difference was moot. I don't remember the service interval off the top of my head, but I think it was every other year. I will go back and review my notes and post agin if I find something in them.

I used to service mine, generic, when they were around $45 a pop, now they're $14 I just replace. If it can be taken apart it's serviceable assuming no impossible to get O rings etc.

I suspect your local shop is taking advantage of you. You might want to call around and consider other options.

I think annual replacement of inflator is very excessive maintenance.
