The tech who put "slack" in the arm should (IMHO) be, um, removed.

The spring tension is the main method of tuning many regs, and most octos. If the arm feels "soft," then a qualified tech should adjust it. Merely slacking it makes an annoying clicking sound, and limits the airflow in some circumstances.

Take the octo (with the 1st stage) to a different lds for service. Explain the problem, and I'm sure it will stop ffing. It may also be a seat or orifice issue.

gl!

The spring is just a $1 part, but most shops won't sell it, and may try to charge you a full rebuild price for installing it. It depends on the shop - actually its a good test of how friendly/helpful the shop is - so you really got to ask the shop. Oh, and if they aren't an authorized dealer for the make, it is highly unlikely they'll be able to get the spring.

Is it expensive to replace the poppet spring? If it's not, I have a friend, who is shopping for a reg (and on a tight budget), that would like to take the Axis off my hands.
