What is the difference? Is there a size difference? Thanks.

Here's a link

4000 vs 4040

Never mind cost as this was an older link.

The physical difference is why Light and Motion lists different housings for the two. Thanks for the info.

I know that the Ikelite and Olympus housing will hold either one.

Your welcome.

I use the C4000Z in a PT-010 housing. I have two of each. The main difference is the 4040 has a 1.8 lens and the 4000 a 2.8. There is no remote control feature on the 4000 but it has super macro and the 4040 does not. Both models fit in the Oly PT-010 along with several others.

The 4000 is plentiful at this time. Refurbs can be had for under $200. The 4040 is hard to find and more expensive.
Both cameras are out of production as is the Olympus PT-010 housing.

Not sure as to why you are asking, but this is not the time to buy either if you don't already have a housing. The PT-010 is near impossible to find new for under $250., which is a ripoff at this point in time.

You are better off getting the 5050 and the PT-015 or the 5060 and its corresponding Oly housing. The 5050 was the last of the series to use 4 AA batteries. The 5060 has a proprietary battery and the housing does not accept the add on lenses the previous models do.

IMHO, buying an Ikelite or other high end housing for a 4000 or a4040 at this point in time is not a good decision.

Gilligan, a friend has an Olympus C-4000 that was a gift; she got a PT-010 for Christmas. This fine lady was on a liveaboard recently and used a rented camera because she had not bought a strobe or other accessories for her combo. The housing she rented was an L&M Tetra with a C-4000 that she loved.

I was trying to get info for her, so that she can decide whether to invest the $1,100 list for a L&M housing for an older camera or get a new digital and the L&M and sell the PT-010 and the C-4000.

Thank you both for the info.

That C4000 will take the same photos in the PT-010 as it will in the $1100. housing.
IMHO keep the C4000 and the PT-010 and buy an Inon D-180 strobe for it along with a tray and handle.

Even w/o a strobe the C4000 takes great macro pics with the built in strobe as well as great no-strobe pics using Manual White Balance and a good software program for editing. As with any of these point and shoot prosumer cameras, manual settings are a must underwater for the best quality photos.
