PADI (diviac) has screwed up my liveaboard - help?

<<booking direct sometimes means doing wire transfers or payment via PayPal>> You can use an agent or book direct and you certainly aren't stuck with those terms to book direct. If via direct or travel agent, they want you to wire/Paypal them money, you use a different boat because you or your agent have little recourse to get your money back. I don't think agents would want to use such terms either. Many of the boats are the best helpers for local travel (lodging before and after, getting to/from the boat to airport) so you are left with getting a flight. When something goes south and you're standing in a far off place, you might be booking direct anyway :)
