you would not have to worry about EFR cert unless you are considering becoming a Open Water Instructor
It has to be completed within the last 24 months for starting DM, too.

If you are to become a working DM or Instructor, check with the shop (unless you go independent) to see how your current EMT cert. fits in with regard to having to have EFR or equivalent kept current. For example, our shop requires EFR for a DM to be current every 2 years (or if an EFR Instructor, you either have to take or teach it once every year I believe). Whereas, my cert with St. John Ambulance (CPR, etc.) is actually good for 3 years, though I'd still have to take it or EFR equivalent every 2 years to continue working at the shop.

I tried doing a search but couldn't really find an answer. When it comes to the PADI EFR course, I have my state EMT card as well as BLS-Provider cards through AHA and both are up to date. I'm also a former instructor (couldn't justify keeping it up to date). Would I still have to take the EFR class or am I able to send PADI a copy of my cards? Sorry if this question is asked ad nausea. Thanks in advance.

As a recently certified DM, I can assure you if you have an EMT-B or higher it Trump's any EFR and O2 or First Aid required by PADI,as long as it is not expired. Just make sure to list the license and number in the field for EFR or it will slow the paperwork.
