I've been to Playa a couple times and will be back again in Feb. Its very laid back, cheap, great beaches etc...Not nearly as crowded as Cancun or Cozumel. You can take the ferry to Coz if you choose for (i think) about 15$ american round trip.

of where I would go first when Im looking for someplace that Im not sure of ...

Playa Del Carmen - Is what I found ...

ScubaDirectory.com - 16,710 different listings / locations when I looked ...

You can also search the Directory from ScubaSearch.com ... I just though this might help others as much as it has helped me ...

easy access to a lot of cenotes!

This area is sometimes refered to as The Mayan Riviera or Riviera Maya.
IMHO Paya is the best of both worlds. (Cancun & Coz) It's laid back...but not too far from the wild night life of Cancun. Just a hop, skip & a ferry ride to Coz. The cenotes are just a little south. Golf courses, for those inclined. And the ruins are near-by too.
There's a wide range for hotels, as well. Depending on your budget & preferrance (AI or EP, large resort, small motel etc...)
