We were on our way to Pulau Weh when the tsunami hit last year, so we never made it there...heard they're in the midst of rebuilding but progress is slow, not sure how slow though...

Zeamonkey:
Does anyone have some recent info? That long post was a year old!

Hi Zeamonkey, they are OPEN FOR DIVING since 18th March 2005....Check out Lumba website....
http://www.lumbalumba.com/news.html

Btw, my last quote of 2 dives/day was extracted from divewetworks website....Lumba is willing to accomdate your requests & help you with the diving plan, transfers, accomodation etc...just get in touch with either Ton or Marjan....

I'll be going there someday =)

I got in touch with Ton and Marjan before going.

I arranged my own way from Singapore to Medan to Aceh (airport is quite far from Banda Aceh).

Ton and Marjan then arranged a local to meet me at Aceh and passed me flight tickets to Sabang in Pulau Weh (she was on time since I am told she works at the airport, but the flight was 3 hours late). When I arrived in Sabang, a small van picked me up and was taken to Gapang beach where Lumba Lumba is.

Pulau Weh seems so peaceful compared to Banda Aceh.

Thanx for the info! I have tried to write them a few months back but never got any reply. Will try again! Have you any idea of the prices for diving in Pulau Weh?

Thanx a lot for this information! It definately confirm the rumours about really cheap and exiting diving up there. I'm also more into pelagics than macro, so it sounds great to me. Thinking of staying a 2 months if its possible to get a 2 mth visa in Singapore or Penang.

Strange nobody mentions the Tsunami. Did they already open after this disaster again.
Probably 130.000 people got killed last december in Aceh.

Tsunami? What tsunami?

actually, I believe it was taken for granted that everyone know there was a tsunami somewhere in the same hemisphere as Aceh in the past half year. Wahleoah was adressing that very point with his 31/5 post and link.
