When I was diving both I would put the hose on when the water temp went below 55F and take it off when the water got above 55F. Now I just dive wet so the hose is hanging on a couple of hooks.

I don't remove my drysuit whip when diving wet. I tuck it inside the waist portion of my harness webbing (I dive a BP/W setup). It remains secure throughout the dive. I usually deploy a SMB prior to my safety stop. I find the drysuit whip very convenient for doing a quick inflate of my SMB. The gizmo on the drysuit whip fits the thingamajig on my SMB perfectly. And the flange on the drysuit whip is nice and wide so I can grip it easily.

You do get to practice oral inflation for a dive!
I once owned a drysuit with an oral inflator, 1988 maybe?

Or you attach your bcd inflator to your dry suit and oral inflate the BCD
