Have you checked your options with Turkish Airlines through Houston? We are flying on Turkish Airlines in April/May from Houston to Hurghada via Istanbul. At the time I booked it was less than $1,000 per person

Dammit, we're on the same flight at end of May for $1200. Some of the flights were $1500. We have a long layover in Ataturk and a 3am arrival in Hurghada. There is an earlier Istanbul to Hurghada flight that reduces the layover and gets you in around 10:30pm but only on 3 days per week.

We are flying Houston/Cairo then transferring to Hurghada and returning from there to Houston after the liveaboard trip. Maybe that's why the price was less? Seems it would be more. Maybe it's the timing...

We are going Emirates for our Dahab Shore Diving week and following week liveaboard from Sharm in Mid June. We found out that we had to spend a lot of time in Istanbul if we flew Turkish air. The layover with Emirates is shorter in Dubai. We pretty much save an entire day.

So we fly Houston to Cairo, do the pyramid and museum thing for a day and a half and then take Egypt air to Sharm. On the way back, when the liveaboard docks at Sharm, we fly back to Cairo on Egypt air and then back to Houston on Emirates. The emirates return flight is interesting. It leaves just after midnight and arrives back in the late afternoon.

I did hear that Turkish air has some special dive gear dispensation.
