Recommendations in the Bahamas

Going to spend a few days in the Bahamas with a non-diving friend. I’m looking for dive shop and resort recommendations on the beach, where there is good diving and walkable to restaurants/bars/shopping.

Any suggestions places to stay and dive shops or at least what area to stay in?

which island?

On Nassau there are only two Bahama Divers and Stuart's Cove, and neither's walkable to the beach or to restaurants. I liked Bahama Divers, and had a couple of days diving with them and they were your typical dive shop. I stopped by Stuart's Cove but didn't dive with them. They seemed fine although catered more to the cruise ships and sold more swag and brand name fashion than dive gear in their shop. They were significantly more expensive for the same dive locations.

I don't know about any of the other islands

It sounds like Grand Bahama has the best diving from what I can find so I’m looking there
