Some of us solo divers consider the surface as our redundant air supply under certain conditions and under other conditions a different form of redundancy is more practical.

There are a lot of team/buddy divers no longer with us sadly. I am thinking that the mindset and preperation for any dive is more important than the presence or absence of a buddy.
