My husband and I are planning to do our referral dives out of Cairns in Dec. We want to do a one night live aboard trip. Anyone know of a good group that gets you out to the outer reef? We would like to get as many dives in as possible? 5 or 6 at least. Thanks!!!

I don't think there are any one night liveaboards, but there are two night liveaboards. Check out "Pro-dive" or "Quicksilver"s web site. Cod Hole near Lizard Island would be a great two nighter.

If you have time don't miss the Yongala wreck dive. It is incredible! You might even get to meet VW, a queensland grouper estimated at 700 pounds. We dove this wreck numerous times and never once was bored. The sea sankes were very freindly too.

There are at least 5 different boats offerring one night liveaboard trips out of Cairns. Do a quick search for 1-day trips at this link http://www.divethereef.com/DiveSelection.asp and you will find what's available.
We had a great time on the Reef Encounter, which is run by Compass Cruises. Also chk out the climate info in their local info section, short, but infomative.

Welcome to the board.

Nice web site, too bad it doesn't load any dive information. :06:

You can go out with the Down Under Dive group they have a permanent liveaboard at the reef and a quick cat that gets you out and back in whenever you want to so your stay is as long and or as short as needed. It is on the Atlantic or Atlanta Clipper.

Try the following links

A one night liveaboard out of Cairns goes something like this:

Cairns Reef Dive is dead and buried. Had great dive sites but the floating hotel needed to be sunk for the benefit of wreck divers in the future.

Down Under has the Atlantic Clipper permanently stationed on the reef which currently is out of the water for about 2/3 weeks for a refit. Again the beauty of web site pictures and brochures is that it does not show the girl in her true honest lite.

I as an independant dive booking agent have all boats on my books and ultimately for reef sites and boat cleanliness I vote for Reef Encounter and CDC for 2 different reasons. You will have to look at whether for exactly the same money you want loads of learner divers onboard and marginally better dive sites or exceptional boat and only cert divers on board. Which is your preference?

Kind regards

AJ

P.S 10% discounts apply to both and good news is the decision you make will always be a good one
