I have been using a Proton Metal for about six months. Other regulators I have owned allow the user to carefully clean dirt and sand from the second stage by unscrewing the front ring and removing the diaphragm. This has always been considered a "good thing to do". How is this accomplished on a Proton Metal second stage?

Thanks / Stu

Stu,

Look at the 2nd stage with the purge button facing you. At the bottom of the casing you will see a little black pin. This pin can be removed with a dental pick type tool. Remove the pin, the cover will then spin off in a counter clockwise direction. Behind the cover is the diaphragm retaining ring (black), pull this out. Now the diaphragm can be removed. Be careful with the diaphragm so as not to tear it. From there you can rinse the entire second stage casing. Put together in the reverse order. Make sure you align the holes of the casing and cover to put the pin back in all the way.

Best,
