When shipping to Canada

When shipping an item to Canada it is better to send by using the post office rather than a courier.
I have been able to get some excellent used equipment from members in the states. The problem is usually with shipping cost. I have no problem paying a customs/duty charge or any tax I would need to pay, but. Today I received a parcel that was sent by courier (UPS). They charged me a brokerage fee for handling the paperwork involved with the customs and duty charges I may need to pay. The duty charge was $0.00 their brokerage fee was $33.25 then they charged tax on that fee. The total was 34.91, a charge for doing nothing in my mind. Other than deliver the parcel which I paid for the shipping charge when the item was purchased.
If the item was sent through the post office the charges I have paid in the past were only $5.00 for the brokerage. It would help out in saving members a bit of money, and not feeling ripped off.
If more people were aware of this it would help out when we are trying to save a bit of money in an all ready expensive sport.

Thanks, Ron Cooper
