San Diego Diving

I'm planning a trip to San Diego in mid August. What are conditions at that time of the year? I want to shore dive and boat dive. I'm interest in diving in the kelp and any wrecks. I'm wondering about rough seas at this time of the year. Is this a good time to go because the sole purpose is to dive? Can you sugest a dive shop. I have all my own equipment, and plan to dive dry. I will need weights and tanks of course.
