Scottish diver dies after dramatic Scapa Flow rescue
A Scottish diver has died after being rescued from Scapa Flow near Orkney .

A 64-year-old man was pulled from the water after a mayday call was issued to vessels in the area, alerting them of the missing recreational diver.

After a boat north east of Cava Lighthouse reported one of its divers 15 minutes overdue, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency launched the rescue operation at 4pm on Friday.

Police confirmed the diver was then recovered by a lifeboat at 5.30pm.

He was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.

The man’s next of kin have been informed.

Stromness and Kirkwall coastguard teams, a search and rescue helicopter from Sumburgh and a Longhope RNLI lifeboat were all involved in the search.
