On a dive, the divemaster had a 'pointer' that looked like a long screwdriver and there was a magnifying glass attached to the handle end. I thought it was a really nifty little piece of equipment. I have tried several google searches to find this, as well as looked at a few of the online website (closest LDS is about an hour away).

Does anyone know what this is called, or better yet where I can find one online? Thank you! :D

(PS - I would just ask the divemaster if there was a way to get a hold of him - there is not.)

Do you remember what s/he used it for?

One of these with a magnifier screwed on the end? Reed's Rod

YES!:D I am not certain it was exactly that brand, but that was it - perhaps he added the magnifying glass and lanyard himself. Thank you!

He used it to point out small things, steady himself in a heavy current and tap a tank for attention. The magnifying glass came in handy for the pygmy seahorses and the tiniest frogfish I have ever seen - no idea how he ever saw it! I personally would like it for heavy currents and steadying myself for photography. I am not a big fan of 'grabbing on' to hang out and watch large Pelagics; I felt this rod would be less damaging to anchor myself. Pseudo Reef Hook I suppose.

I just put two and two together - Reed of Reed's Rod is Papa_Bear on Scubaboard. Always nice to support a fellow scubaboarder!
