There are TTL's offered by camera manufacturers and even TTL done by the strobes.
Is TTL necessary?
Some say that they can do accurate shot without it, esp. for digital camera, we can always have a trial first and delete it. Experienced photographer mentioned, they just need to do it with 2 shots if not 1.

Some mentioned that it's harder for marine life in motion.
What will be your your opinion?

p.s.Thanks for the good pointers, I read these related threads recently:

I have a TTL system with my Olympus c-5060 and Ikelite Strobes. I love it. If you set up in manual mode you can play until you get the results you like. With under water photography it is hard to get 1 good shot let alone 2 of the same subject with different exposures . So.... I like to try and get it as simple as possible. TTL is simple. A good slave with a manual controller is great also. You can adjust your flash. I personally did not want to decide on pictures which of the 10 flash settins I was going to use. I prefer to shoot raw and then play with exposure in photoshop if I have to at all.

TTL is a tool like any other. There will be times when it can make life easier. There will be times it isn't the right tool for the job.

IMHO go ahead and buy the ttl capable system if you want - it can't hurt and you don't have to use it. It wouldn't be a deal breaker for me (not having ttl) - either, either...

None of my current gear uses ttl and I don't miss it YMMV
