I'm trying to identify this guy, I saw this weekend (Jan 2018). Saw one in the Cabo San Lucas Preserve and one in Cabo Pulmo the day before. They were on morning dives and they hide under the flat sand. I caught this guy moving from A to B before tossing sand on himself again.

More importantly I'm interested in any online resources that would be helpful for identifying rays and skates so that next time I don't have to ask you guys. :) I downloaded the Smithsonian apps as a start.

Thanks!

Thanks for letting us know where you saw it. A quick search of 'stingrays Cabo San Lucas' shows this to be a Bullseye Round Stingray.

Well now I feel silly. I guess that's one way to go. :) I set you up very well to reply with a http://lmgtfy.com link.

I'll consider Google + location in the future. Is that usually the best method or are their also some good Go To places?

Don't feel silly. Google is just a great resource, not the end-all.

I usually try to find a Fish-Base link from there; but the better option is to scout out the pictures for something similar. Your ray was easy; but my first impression was Yellow Round Ray, until I dug a little on the marking pattern.
