Awesome info, we are looking into options. I have yet to see one this summer and we have been shore diving alot. Not much boat diving due to time restraints but while other divers have reported them in Deerfield, LBTS and other off shore sites, we haven't seen any. Working on the lobster hunting but will definately be thinking about hunting for these nasty devils.

Scubaproman: You are right about the Lionfish Killer sold by Cheap Scuba Tanks, Scuba Cylinders, Discount Scuba and Accessories. I bought one from them 2 weeks ago and used it last weekend. I just hang it from one of the lower clips on my BC and pull it out when I see them. I slayed the Lionfish!!! Check out their website. They have great prices and free shipping!

Remember that some places won't allow any spear of any kind...(although I would have loved to have one on my last Cayman trip...lots of lionfish there).

I saw 8 of them in the same spot in Jamaica last week.
Would have loved to have a spear.
Is there a videoclip showing one being used?

I found the postings helpful by members who found short spear solutions. Thanks, everyone.

I've seen lionfish on almost each of my dives this year... are these small spears easy to use?
I've seen pictures of people having caught them in clear vinyl plastic bags? i
Do people eat them?

Yes,they are very easy to use. I carry one of these: http://www.foldspear.com

I've never tried catching them in a bag, although I can see how this would work with the tiny ones, those that are too small to spear.

Lionfish are delicious. Other fish like them too, they just prefer that we kill them first.
