Strobe arrived doesn't work gutted!

My new strobe arrived and thought I would try it out. Followed the instructions and fitted strobe to arm etc. and fitted new NI-MH 2700 Batteries as per instructions and polarity observed very carefully.
Turned camera on to flash and turned strobe to TTL. Red light on bottom of strobe starts flashing accompanied by a faint ticking noise. Light then goes out and nothing. Wont flash, no light on nothing. Turned it off and on and still nothing. Very disappointing.
If anyone has any ideas I will be glad to hear them as the strobe hasn't even made it to the water. I haven't got a clue apart from I reckon its defective.

Have you called Sea&Sea tech support?

You said "new" strobe arrived, so I am assuming it is new and under warranty.

Yes new and under warranty. Going to try some other batteries first as these were also new but may be its them? I put them in the charger for five minutes and it was saying full but who knows don't want to rule it out just yet.

Can't understand its working perfectly now? I charged the batteries for a few hours even though they are new and the charger was saying full I left them in the charger for 3 hours refitted them exactly the same as before and its working fine now, really strange.
