I think it would be more useful to display the actual “Years Certified” in the User Profile. Instead of having a pull-down menu with a very limited number of choices you could ask for the certification date (month and year). Then the "Years Certified" time could be calculated.
 
How about number of years SCUBA diving? I became certified in 1969 but first used SCUBA in 1962. I just didn't realize anyone had to be certified until I moved to California in 1969.

I'm good with "years diving". A person that starts out freediving before learning Scuba is also learning a great deal and developing skills.
 
Perhaps the User Profile is the place to put this kind of information? I just checked mine and noticed that it has a "years certified" box (although the highest level there is 10 years or more).
