I will be flying into Bali/DPS and have read buying a SIM card is a lot more expensive there. Can anyone confirm or deny?
I am hoping to go with Telkomsel since I will be in Padangbai, a Komodo liveaboard, Alor, and around Bali.
    My first stop is Padangbai.
Are there Telkomsel dealers near there or should I just get one at the airport.
I will be needing one for 3 1/2 weeks.

    Thanks

Just do it at the airport... There is a dealer right after customs as you are exiting the terminal. Easy peasy... make sure your phone is unlocked from the original provider. I think the most expensive pkg is 300,000 rupiah (20-25usd) for 30 days.

Yup airport. They will set it up for you. Make sure to save your home settings so when you plug your old Sim back in you can reset it.

I guess the convenience is worth the premium.
Anyone have luck getting service around Komodo?

Service in LBJ is great, there is even 4G in a sweet spot in the central part of the park.

kiosk outside of the airport terminal has the cheaper packages from 50k to 200k also if you don't need that much data.

This is excellent advice. One way to do it is -- before you get to Indonesia -- go to your phone's settings and take screenshots of the relevant pages. On my Android S8 those are:
    settings/about-phone/status/SIM-card-status
    settings/connections/mobile-networks/access-point-names
settings/connections/mobile-networks/access-point-names/(long-press to get to info on your service)
    settings/connections/mobile-networks/network-operators

Airport. You could probably save a few $ buying elsewhere but the convenience factor is significant and the savings minimal. Last time through took about 60 seconds for them to do the switch. Worked in Lembeh and any time I was near any of the small villages in Raja

Ohh jeez, show me how digitally challenged I am, I just write it down.

In my perfect world you could just save them under a named sim, you'd think the brainiac techies would write a few line of code and let us do this.

Heck I just use an old phone... that way I don't have to remember anything. FYI, What'sApp seems to work the best in Indo for messaging and almost every business, driver, dive op etc. uses it for communication. Highly recommend downloading app and getting significant others set-up as well. And remember your number will have Indonesian pre-fix etc.
