RickyF and all the other posters: Just a suggestion, it would be a little more helpful if you named brands. Not all are made from the same material nor ingrained with resin to the same degree.
I had the same problem as RickyF with my OMS cam bands. My problem was changing between steel tanks and aluminium tanks of different circumference. The straps were so stiff that they were difficult to adjust to the different tanks. Nothing worked to soften them up. (I *think* I tried boiling them, I don't fully remember) After more than 100 dives with them, I bought a pair of Diverite cam bands and these are not too soft, not too stiff. I'm happy!
