I wanted to invite you to support sharks at an event this Saturday October 23rd. This is a benefit for Sea Steward's 's shark research and conservation efforts. We have tagged over 250 local sharks in a movements and demographics study, and are participating in a population genetics study. We are also working with local fishermen to promote catch and release of sharks in the Bay, and have been promoting shark conservation legislation banning the sale of shark fins in San Francisco and now the State of California. As a primarily volunteer effort, Sea stewards is the most effective shark conservation organization in the state. We are also producing a new short film on local sharks, and a short has premiered with the California Academy (with Dr. John McCosker) at the Sharklife event last Thursday.

In order to maintain our status as a fiscally sponsored project under The Ocean Foundation and continue this work, we need to raise $20,000 by the year's end. Sharktoberfest is a month long series of celebrations to raise awareness and hep us reach that goal.

I hope you can join us for the fundraiser this Saturday- it will be great shark fun!Party with the sharks and join Sea Stewards for the second annual Sharktoberfest October 23rd on the Tiburon Angel Island Ferry.
Sharktoberfest raises awareness on the importance of sharks and
benefits Sea Stewards shark conservation efforts. See the web for our
recent efforts tagging sharks and the Shark Sanctuary program.
