the same one from late last year / earlier this year?

I wonder how LP will handle this....I was going to buy one from them next week, now I better wait.
 
There is no current recall on any of the current model Vytecs that I am aware of.

You should be safe as that was the earlier model vytecs that were affected by this. All current models are unaffected.
 
a published serial number range on these (Suunto published it)

So, when you get it, simply check the serial number. If its outside the range of affected units then you're fine.
