Agree with DorsetBoy on the Thai buckets... danced my way into oblivion on Phi Phi after drinking one.

As for the diving, I spent most of my time on Koh Tao, Koh Lanta and Koh Phi Phi. Liked them all. Some good diving in both general areas. Haven't been to the Similans (yet) but I've heard mostly good about the diving there and may return next spring.

I dove with Planet Scuba on Koh Tao. Liked the people, but the rental equipment often left much to be desired. With one BCD I Couldn't even find the correct arm hole! They got me another one with no complaints. Also had a first stage blow (unusual event) but there was backup on the boat. I thought they were generally a good operator.

Dove with Visa Diving Center on Phi Phi. Really enjoyed the group there and made a few friends I'm still in touch with. No problems with their equipment. Even fell in "love" with one of their Dutch divemasters (sigh).

Dr. Bill

Thanks Dr Bill! I checked out visa's website and they look great. The advice is much appreciated....

Go to Ko Lanta Via Krabi and dive with Blue Planet. Ask for Wouter aka Scuba Kabouter and tell him Suzanne sent you

November is the perfect time to be diving on Phi PHi island. It is one of the best dive sites in Thailand. Long beach divers take nice small groups out in longtail boats ( about 20min) to the bida's, two pinnacles off Phi Phi Ley. Ask for Gary and he'll sort you out. I ran a scuba store there in 2003 and really rated the diving there. Koh Tao is in the off season in November. Happy diving.
