I'm guessing you're carrying a pony bottle as your backup air and so don't see the reason to have an octo as well (i.e., 3 2nd stages). I'm almost always in doubles, so I have 2 2nd stages, but if I were doing a lot of single tank solo w/ a pony I'd probably take off the octo.

I dive sidemount - so no octo here but each tank has it's own 1st and 2nd.
