While reviewing on-line used bookseller holdings, I came across a novel The Peking Papers by Gary Gentile and a frist edition (ISBN 0-9621453-6-X). The novel tells the story of the search for the Peking Man, the remains of a pre-homo sapien hominoid that was last in the possession of US Marines as they tried to exit China following the beginning of WWII. However, some of the artifacts accompanying the remains are extraterrestrial in origin. The tale Gentile unfolds is definited on of intrique as two government agents and an archaeologist clandenstinely attempt to find and recover the skeletal remains and artifacts from a shipwreck. The problem is, the objects may be on one of many lost vessels. The mystery is which one and where is it located. The sequential search, conducted as the trio is pursued by unknown agents, unfolds as each course is served with intrique and mystery. The book, written at the dawn of the tech diving era, offers a view of what wreck diving was like three decades ago, when the Soviets still reigned. Defintely worth reading.
