Trident magnetic octo retainer?

I was about half way home with my dandy new Trident magnetic octo holder when I realized, "wouldn't this cause my compass to go crazy?"

Well, anyone used one? Did it bother your compass? It seems to be a pretty strong magnet. My compass would be on my wrist, probably about a foot from the magnet.

I don't have the reg holder, but I have my primary light on a magnet/coil. Holding the light with 1/2 of the magnet pair in my right hand will mess with the compass on my left wrist slightly if closer than 30-40cm. It isn't a quick jump of the needle, more gradual float. My biggest annoyance is the ferrous particles the magnets pick up and rust that follows.

I have one of these octo holders, my compass is in a console & I have never had a problem with the magnet messing with my compass. Love the holder, by far the best I have used.

The biggest problem I have seen is that magnets collect ferrous particles when wreck diving. It is surprising how difficult it is to clean them off rare-earth magnets.
