I just purchased a 5mm trilastic hood and the hood seems to fit great except for the size of the face opening.

With my mask on - it appears to overlap well over an inch. In fact - if I were to trim it to not overlap at all it wold cut off about half of the Mares logo on the forehead.

Don't get me wrong, I don't have an overly strong desire to be a Mares billboard, but having half of the logo trimmed will probably look funny.

Is the hood designed to be trimmed this way? I could trim more off the bottom, but I don't want to cut into the stitching.

What do you say Mares? Any suggestions?

Ron, I just bought one also and found the opening quite small. The Mares guys told me I could trim the mask no problem. Just stay away from the stitching if possible. Or if you need to cut there, be ready to restitch and possibly use some neoprene cement to solidify the stitching so it doesn't come appart.

I found that it mainly was to the sides (near the eyes) that I needed to trim, but that will be specific to the user.

Make sure you use a sharp hobby knife (preferably with a brand new blade) so the cut is nice and clean.

Be carefull and one piece of advice. Measure twice... Cut once!!!! Cause there aint no going back...

Thanks for the reassurance. It sounds like you didn't have to cut too much, if any, from the top of the face opening. did yo leave any overlap when you trimmed?

Yeah I did, but not too much...
