Made a quick trip to Paradise Island July 2-5. Did 2 days of shallow diving with Bahama Divers. Very nice operation. Stayed shallow (30 feet or less) each day and got to stay underwater for 55 minutes! Water temp was 88 on July 3, 84 on July 4. July 4 reef (ThunderBall) was near "Gilligan's Island"( Sandy cay). Viz was 80+. Great trip!

My wife and I stayed at the Riu a few times before it was recently renovated. It's all (meals) inclusive, it has 2 pools, its own beach, and right next to the Atlantis. Bahama Divers provided transportation to and from the dive shop - only 10 minutes away. When I wasn't diving, we hung out at the beach & pool, and went to the Atlantis casino at night. Didn't want to walk around Nassau. I don't know how safe it is. What we also like is that it's like going to Florida - not too far. And when you return home, you go through US Customs at the Nassau airport, so you don't have to deal with that when you arrive in the U.S.

Is the diving drift diving or pretty calm? (the wife isn't overly fond of drift diving)

She's into the marine life. Were there plenty of fish/eels/turtles etc? What did u see?

Very calm. Lots of marine life. I'm no tropical fish expert. I did see plenty of fish, including eels and a few turtles. Easy, long, shallow dives.
