Sad news

I wonder what this will do to the other charter companies in California.

I imagine a bunch of divers will be scrambling to find spots on other boats. The Peace was a highly reputable op. when I was reading up on the California dive scene, but I believe they're a one boat op.?

The Truth, Conception and Vision live-aboard boats all dropping out of the local market in short order is a big blow to diver capacity I imagine?

Wonder how many out-of-state folks bought airfare for trips with them, and will no be looking for options? What would be good recommendations for them...try to book a hotel on Catalina and shore dive Casino Point, or a good place to stay on the mainland the hope to snag a day boat slot?

Richard.

Well there’s still day trips on the Spectre and according to their website they still let you sleep on the boat the night before a trip.
There’s the Peace but they already have their plate full with booked trips.
The Peace is a GREAT boat too.
I don’t know what’s going to happen.
Truth Aquatics was the biggest player with three of the premium boats and a stellar reputation.
This is all still unbelievable.
It’s like an armageddon in the California dive community.
This left a huge hole.

Never dived liveaboards in Cali just shore diving.

What made this company boats premium? Just compared to other Cali liveaboards? Compared to liveaboards elsewhere sounds like a cattle car to me.

And stellar reputation due to what? I've read that they contribute to social causes in Santa Barbara. What would a company need to do to not have a good rep in Cali? Are there other companies in Cali with a less than stellar rep?

Just curious since I live here but am tempted to go to the channel islands etc.

No other option really, a repeat disaster, no matter how unlikely, is a risk they cannot afford to take. With a cloud hanging over the vessels they will need changes if they are to remain in that service in future. Doing nothing is not an option.

Any chance the title to this thread can be changed to "suspended operations"?

Shutting down sounds like they are gone for good, which has not (at least yet) happened, and if/when they do start up again it would be good if their customers hadn't been thinking "shut down" from skimming thread titles here on SB.

And just for the sake of accuracy, too.

Jack - I think those of us CA divers that have the highest regard for Truth Aquatics will welcome the re-opening of their fleet in due time. I look forward to diving with them again.
