Hi Folks,

I see that the UW Light Dude Primary lights (e.g, LD-26 Primary Light | Underwater Light Dude) have on the canister two different options where the cord can come in: Top or Side (gland position). Does anyone have any insight into which position would be best for a given activity. It appears that the newest version is the side gland. I dive a bp/wing if that matters. thx

I think the side position type is mainly aimed for the sidemount guys.. But i guess it would work just as good for bp/w.

I have 3 of the lights and all are side gland mounts. I used this configuration with BP/W, as well as SM. Personal preference is all it is.

side gland was originally intended for sidemount, but quite a few divers are realizing that sidegland works quite well for backmount as well, especially with the big canister.

Grey Goose,
As the others have stated it is a matter of preference. The Side Gland (SG) arrangement works well for BP&W with the canister mounted on your waist belt. This positions the cord coming out from your body rather than inline with it. The benefit is that it keeps the cord our of the way of your elbow when you reach behind you for any reason such as to reach a butt d-ring. It also helps to keep your cord clear so you don't trap your long hose. All minor things however I personally like the routing of the SG with a BP&W setup.

For Side Mount (SM) diving I also prefer the SG configuration, however Dr. X prefers the Top Gland (TG) configuration. I like to rout my cord along the top of my wing then bring it under my arm. She prefers to route the cord under her wing then up so the TG works better for her.

Most CCR divers prefer the SG when they mount the canister on their CCR.

Thanks,
