Anyone have a handy product to keep the face from getting (more) scratches?

Thanks!

they don't show up under water

I'd still like to avoid them. I don't like having everything scratched to no end.

Try using one of the clear lens protectors for a smart phone or PDA.

NAPA auto parts also used to sell some clear laminate, that I think was used to protect headlights from rock chips that a lot of people used successfully.

If the scratches currently on your lens are very light, you might be able to buff them out using jewelers rouge or a lens repair stuff from an optical place before putting the lens protector on.

If the lens is plastic, do NOT use a Dremel-type tool to do this!
