The past week (August 24 to Sept 2) a group of explorers from Western Canada and the PNW went to the Reappearing River cave near Port McNeill on Vancouver Island to attempt to push the End Of Line (EOL) at 160' depth that was established by John Pollack and David Sawatzky in the late '80s. We had hoped to get 2 divers down but in the end the extreme physical difficulties of the cave made it possible to only get one diver to the end (Richard Jack aka RJack) on the 5th day of the expedition. Max depth was 253'. Time in the cave on the push day was 12 hours for Richard Jack and Mike the Moose and 10 hours for myself and Rebecca Barrett.
.We were honoured to have been awarded Explorers Club Flag 33 for this endeavour.
In all there were 8 people who were involved this week. A video will be put out at some point later this year detailing the whole thing.
The one picture is from the entry side of the area known as "Never Never Land". The other is of Terina Hancock and John McCuaig with the Explorers' Club flag.
Footage from our 2010 reconnaissance is here Reappearing River, BC, Canada
