So we get a call about 2pm from the State Police. It seems that Sunday morning this gentleman was picked up at a ferry ramp soaking wet and under the influence. As the story goes the gentleman said he had swam from a local water hole to the ferry ramp (5 miles) and wasnt sure where his truck was. As he thinks about the location of his truck some more he starts to recall climbing out the window of it. It was request of us to dive the ramp area to see if we can possible find a truck that may or may not be there. We contact the fire department who has jurisdiciton at the ramp and get a search operation going. 1 dive unit 2 Dive teams, 2 Marine units, several peices of fire equipment on the scene.
Sonar picks up 2 potential spots that could be something. Diver 1 goes in and ends up finding a barnacle encrusted vehicle upside down and partially burried. The vehicle is marked with a float and diver 1 comes up. Diver 2 goes down and confirms car upside down and burried.
Marine 15 sets up near the 2nd spot. Diver goes down lands on a vehicle. This spot is closer to the chanel, tide running out , stronger current. Diver 1 surfaces. Diver 2 goes down and marks the vehicle with a float.
Wrecker shows up, Divers 1 and 2 hook up tow cable to vehicle further out. Members of mutual aid dive team hook up cable to first vehicle found.
Searching for 1 vehicle end of with 2. Great training. No vis at all on these dives. Fan pattern search on a "leash"
It seems the original gentleman drove off the ramp. Windows in the truck were up so Im pretty sure he didnt climb out the window. The barnacle encrusted car had been reported stolen in 2005. We opened the doors to it a load of baby catfish dumped out with the water. One of those funny things you see on tv commercials.

Sounds like a great learning experience for you guys! Always good to remember that at any second, the mission can change! :)

That sounds like a typical dive for our dive team. On a call out at 5:45 pm, we recovered 3 vehicles. Then we went back top the same area and found another stolen vehicle and 2 golf carts. We were not done with a third of the lake. By the way there were gators in the lake, also.
