Hi All:

The Ocean Explorer has open seats for dive trips to the John Morgan (Saturday), Francis E. Powell (Sunday) and Lillian Luckenbach (Monday) this Memorial Day weekend, May 28th, 29th and 30th. Cost is $129 for any day. Trips leave at 8:00 AM, 9 to 10 hours at sea. Saturday and Sunday night gas fills available, including EAN and deco O2 mixes. Please call Dive Quarters in Virginia Beach at 757-422-3483 to book. Advanced Open Water certification and/or ocean diving experience is required (EAN gas use recommended).

The John Morgan was a brand new Liberty Ship sunk by a collision with the Montana in June of 1943. Roughly 35 miles E/NE of Rudee Inlet, max depth is 110 FT in washouts, large structure with multiple sections and high bottom relief, usual visibility is 20 to 30 FT. Tanks, munitions, brass ports, valves and fittings are still found covering the wreck, along with lobster.

The Francis E. Powell was a 1922 tanker sunk by the U-130 in January of 1942. Roughly 25 miles E/SE of Rudee Inlet, max depth is 90 FT, broken up structure, usual visibility is 20 to 30 FT. This is a lobster wreck.

The Lillian Luckenbach was a 1919 freighter sank by a collision with the Cape Henlopen in March of 1943. Roughly 35 miles E/NE of Rudee Inlet, max depth is 110 FT in washouts, large structure with multiple sections and high bottom relief, usual visibility is 20 to 30 FT. Truck tires, airplane parts, brass ports, valves and fittings are still found covering the wreck, along with lobster.

The Ocean Explorer is a fully inspected USCG dive boat relocated to Virginia Beach from Florida for the 2011 Virginia diving season. Operated from Rudee Inlet by Captain Mark Fowler, she's 65 FT long with live aboard accommodations (10 bunks, 2 full heads with showers, full galley with refrigeration and fully air-conditioned interior), a massive dive deck (room for 16 divers with full gear, gear table, under seat stowage, on-deck fresh water hot/cold showers, full sun protection and overhead sun deck, two boarding ladders - fins on or off - and big dive platform) and underway air, EAN or Trimix fills (twin 9 CFM Bauer compressors with a 15/30 Haskle booster pump and fill whips located each side of the dive deck).

Deco DOGS, soft drinks and fixings, per our Mid-Atlantic diving tradition, always served for lunch by the friendly OEX crew every day offshore. The coffee pot is always full!
