Liveaboard is not how I would do Myanmar, the islands are too beautiful to sleep on a boat. There is already landbased diving. Boulder Bay Eco Resort, Victoria Cliff, Awei Pilar, Wa Ale
The OP was asking diving in Thailand.

That's OK, no harm in suggesting another option to someone wanting to avoid the tourist crush.

I'm heading to Lanta too during the CNY period. Wondering if anyone has any comments about speedboat ride to daeng and mueang? Will it be unbearably unpleasantly choppy? How high do the waves tend to be enroute? Don't really want to spend 3 hours on a big boat each way.

We have just go back from Thailand. We went to Hin Muang and Daeng on a speedboat. The trip there and back was fine. It took an hour or so from the South of Ko Lanta and was far better than a big boat. We dived Hin Daeng only, which was wonderful with lots of fish and schools of glassfish everywhere. However no mantas have been seen since mid November. They should normally be there by now fingers crossed they will be there when you visit.

We also visited Lipe and Phi Phi. The soft corals are growing very well over the bleached hard corals. Fish life was prolific and the glassfish made everything look beautiful. We had some great macro spots. Lipe was an absolutely delight both underwater and topside. Stonehenge is well worth the visit.

Have you (or any other members reading here) been diving out of Chumphon?

I don't mean diving Chumphon pinnacle, but the actual town.

Hi CiC

Happy 2020 ! No, haven’t been diving from there. It’s probably worth a try if you are heading that way. We enjoyed the islands on the Andaman side way way more than we expected xxx
