Diver dies on Wairarapa coast
A diver has died on a remote stretch of Wairarapa coast.

The Westpac rescue helicopter, as well as ambulance and police, were called to the scene near Tora, south of Martinborough about midday on Sunday.

Westpac rescue helicopter crewman Logan Taylor said the man was on the back of the boat on the shore when rescuers arrived.

He had already passed away, Taylor said.

It was not clear how he had died.

Police understood the man had been diving with a companion.
