CONCORD, Mass. - A man was pulled from Walden Pond unresponsive by bystanders on Friday afternoon.
Witnesses tell Boston 25 News the incident happened Friday afternoon. A man who they say is a "free diver" was practicing holding his breath for long periods of time.
A teenager first noticed the man was in trouble when he didn't come up for air for a while. The teen then pulled the man out of the water.
"Good gentleman, maybe 15, 16 years old jumped into the water and saved him and ambulances were right here they got him out of the water," said witness Andrew Oprian.
Concord firefighters got the call just before 5 p.m. Friday.
They rushed to the scene and when they got there, people had gathered around the man and were performing CPR.
"We arrived to find the patient that had been pulled from the water and was unresponsive," said Fire Captain Brian Whitney. "He was still unconscious, but he did have a pulse.
Firefighters took over CPR before the man was taken away in an ambulance.
"This older man has this sport where he goes underwater and tries to hold his breath and tries to hold his breath. He does it routinely, comes here all the time and this was his first time here this year and he was rusty I think and the water got to him I guess," said Oprian.
The man was taken to Lahey Hospital and is expected to survive.
