Anyone know how to find out current (temp, viz, etc.) conditions? I've done several "searches" but only seem to come up with out-of-date info.

not sure where in the world you are, but you can try NOAA's national data bouy
center:

http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/index.shtml

click on the area you want, and it will let you pick from several bouys in that
region.

here's an example (the St. Augustine, Florida buoy, 40 nm offshore):

http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.phtml?station=41012

and here's a water temperature guide, for the US:

http://www.nodc.noaa.gov/dsdt/cwtg/index.html

again, click on the area you want and you'll get an overview; click on a specific
item, and it will show you more info.

Hey, batgirl. The suggestions for the NOAA sites (my favorite is www.nws.noaa.gov/om/marine/zone/usamz.htm ). However, things like currents and vis change from hour to hour, and anything you could find on the Net would certainly be outdated by the time you got it. I know of only one way to determine vis and current at any given moment at a dive site, and that's to jump in and have a look. -Clay
