What happens to a submarine sunk by depth charges?

As far as the scorpion and thresher. both positions were generally known but not specifically. land based listening stations track them but if ythey are at a bearing of 150 +/- 1/2 degree over 1000 miles and that bearing is crossed with another facility dong the same then the area of probability can be many miles of ocean. perhaps IE 20 miles by 30 ,miles a ship can also start to sink and go down in a manor not being virtical but at an angle and end up miles form where it was when it started to sink. I have been on both ship trials of ny own ship and been assigned to monitor the trials of other ships. 'The purpose being if something goes wrong to get refined location data from an in area listening platform.

There are videos of one of my old skippers ( Jim Briant) that is doing research regarding the threasher incident and calling for declassification and release of data. A very enlightening presentation.
