There's a rotation involved when I kick that sometimes gives me a "shot". Not every time but enough to make me wary. The loss of flexibility makes keeping my feet up problematic. I also ended up with femurs about an inch longer than they are supposed to be which I believe throws the geometry out and makes my quads and IT band very tight. Sitting on my heels is so far out of the question that it is laughable. I don't seem to have any more trouble than expected with packing weight, though I'm a little careful and only double SM, hooking up in the water. I am surprised to find that your strength does indeed wane as you age. The same loads just get heavier for no good reason.

Would I hesitate on hip replacements if I were to do it again? Not for a New York minute! They made life sooo much better.
My experience may not mirror anyone else's. I could have been more diligent with my post op physio. I am the age I am so that makes a difference as well.

I can walk, run, jump as well as anyone my age and warm water diving is no issue at all. For a while this fall I was snorkelling 2km twice a week to try to improve my RMV. Stopped when I got bored stupid doing 80 lengths at a time

    For this coming year:
    1) Get my youngest daughter certified so I have a regular buddy.
    2) Read all the certification literature, so that when I make comments about training back in the day versus now, I will not be talking out as.. hat.
    3) Make at least 25 dives this year.
    4) find/try at least 3 new spots (Afterdark- we need to get the boat going...)
    5) Keep making videos and try not to make them suck... (especially better music)

So far it's only my left hip that's giving me grief. It's flattened out plus has a spur growing off the bottom of the socket that gives me some serious range of motion issues. I've had three hip shots so far and the last one lasted for about 2 months when they're supposed to last 9 mo to a year. Anything would be better than what I go through especially in the winter. The right one so far has no problems and no arthritis.

So I guess I could add to my resolutions to finally get off my butt and schedule the surgery.

    Goals for 2016:
1- Add 25 dives to my log so I can go on the live aboard dive trip I am dreaming of.
    2- Slim down.
3- Swim at least 2 times a week to keep my strength up.
4- Improve my buoyancy control. Getting better but not there yet.
5- Dive on my 73rd birthday next year.

Happy New Year to you all.

I had mine done three years ago at the age of 45, worn it out early after a lot of years of weightlifting, and ice hockey! It was bone on bone and grinding! Best thing I could have done! I do struggle getting fins on if I wear my drysuit in the surf, so most of the time, I drysuit on boats, and 7mm on shore dives, other than that it causes zero issues when diving! Do an anterior, I was back in the gym pedaling an exercise bike eight days after surgery

So your 2017 resolution must be that liveaboard trip you dreamed about.
    Hope your dream come true.
    Cheers.
